I've heard worse reasons to watch something.

Kurau Phantom Memory is awesome.
Seriously, I fell in love with it after watching just two episodes.
Offline
I am seriously lacking in Super Robot things that I have watched.
Seriously, I've got, like, Voltron, and that's really about it.

IkkiTousen: This really isn't very good. I guess that's why there's a lot of it?
I sound like such a pervert in this thread. Really, I liked Haruhi a lot more and she wasn't ever naked.
Offline
I hear Ikki Tousen is tangentially related to the Three Kingdoms, which would be the only reason I might ever watch it, but chances are they screwed it up anyway.

As I gather, all (or just most of the significant ones) of the characters are significant historical figures from that period, reincarnated (usually as girls). What happens is that occasionally when something happens a voice over gives a very short explanation of the historical equivalent of one of the characters involved and what they did (relating to what just happened). I wouldn't expect it to be any sort of accurate, nor am I absorbing any sort of historic fact. This is a show for fighting, panty shots, and near-nudity*. If you want to learn even so much as what the third kingdom was (Japan, proto-China, and... ?), you'd best look to any other thing claiming to deal with the subject.
*and ham-fisted characterization and not great art.

...Hey, most of my knowledge of the Three Kingdoms era is from the Dynasty Warriors series, and I doubt that's particularly accurate. I know Liu Bei got one hell of a whitewash, as historically he was a huge asshole, while in DW he's practically a saint.
Also, Wei, Wu, and Shu. All of which were in China, and were more or less warring to become the new Emperor. The leaders, that is, not the kingdoms.
EDIT: Hm. The site keeps logging me out every time I make a new post. I have no idea why this is.

That's the other thing I was going to recommend for learning about the period without consulting anything intended primarily for the conveyance of information. I couldn't remember what it was called though.
I have just spontaneously remembered that Romance of the Three Kingdoms is a thing that exists. How about that?
Offline
Yeah, that was also written 1000+ years after the events occurred and changed a bunch of stuff, so it's probably no more accurate than DW is.
Offline
How recently after the events occurred was written anything you're going to find in english? If you're going to be so vigorous in avoidance of things like 'skewed perspective', 'glaring omissions', 'questionable sources' and 'outright fabrication', you're going to have to actually look at some things who's primary description includes some form of the word 'history', rather then 'eye candy' or 'a video-type game of interactive amusement'.
I like this forum because that's really the way sentences come out of my head, and in other places I'd feel I have to make them with sense first.

Soul Eater: I don't remember what I was looking for, but on some forum that didn't have that, someone had Death the Kid in their sig. He's an interesting enough character design that I looked it up. It's quite good. I am happy to live in the modern era wherebefore I think the art style of this would have been too... interpretive? I was thinking about some other things when I had that idea, maybe I don't mean it.
I got the manga first (they download faster), and the problem with that is in this order I get the idea of what people should sound like, and that idea isn't how Soul or Black*Star sound. Shinigami-sama is strange sounding, but I knew that already, it's just a different kind of strange then I imagined. Also, they've translated Shinigami-sama's name (the subs say 'Grim Reaper') and not Brea (which is what her name sounds like in Japanese, but it's probably supposed to be Blair. Because she's (not) a witch. Ha1)
Anyway, motion and colour do add significantly to the esthetic value, although the art is necessarily less odd. The fighting is cool though, it's almost enough to convince me that a scythe is a viable weapon (which, in spite of their awesomness, I'm convinced they aren't), but people can't actually move that fast.
Why am I saying all these things when I've only seen one episode and can't even tell you that Kid sounds wrong yet? Well, I've read half the manga and I can probably say it'll be about that good. Also, if you look closely you'll see that I haven't really said anything.
Candy Boy: What's that I said about me looking like a pervert in this thread? Ha ha ha ha! *sigh*
IkkiTousen: Second season now, because the first got better near the end. And I don't mean the episode with the hot spring. I'm hoping Kanu is in this one more. I have a habit of finding peripheral characters more interesting then the central ones.

Soul Eater is pretty slick and cool from what I've seen, and there are some pretty funny bits (like Dr. Frankenstein utterly failing his dramatic entrance, then just getting up and walking away to try it again, then failing again in the exact same way.)
I've been watching a lot of Full Metal Panic lately, as the premise (military-ish story with giant robots meets high school comedy) seemed interesting enough. The female lead isn't really very interesting, though. Personality-wise, she's just your typical violent tsundere, and her character design isn't really appealing enough to make up for it. Sousuke, on the other hand, easily steals the show. Overall, I guess it's alright, though I highly doubt it's going to be one of my personal favorites once I'm finished with it.

Gintama. I picked it up recently and have enjoyed it thoroughly. It fills the gag referential anime hole that was left when Yakitate!! Japan ended, among other things.

I watched TTGL, though I think I mentioned that back when I first finished watching it. I got my sister to watch a few episodes, though I don't think she's continued on her own. Oh, and I watched one episode of 08th MS team, and am thinking of possibly trying Ghost in the Shell again.
I have not really been watching much anime lately.
Offline
I'll be honest, anime is pretty goddamn terrible, the last one I seriously watched was Shin Mazinger and that is because I am a gigantic faggoty fanboy for Go Nagai and his giant robot stuff.
There's exceptions to this, but I mean really.
Offline
Well, considering the sheer volume of it, and when you take Sturgeon's Law Revelation into account...
There are few especially inspiring shows, though there are more that start with a good concept. They just tend to fuck it up in the execution, especially if it becomes really long-running.

Gungrave.
I love it. Easily the best anime adaptation of a video game I've ever seen (then again, the bar isn't set very high on those kinds of adaptations.) The fact that it's got character designs by the guy who wrote Trigun just makes it better.
Offline
I've been watching the Hellsing OVA; is reasonably good. Other than that, haven't really been watching any anime.
Offline
After so many years of hearing the name Hellsing, I still have no idea what it's about.
On another note. I'm watching all these Rockman.EXE episodes. ![]()
Never realized how much stuff they cut out in the English ones until I watched the Japanese ones. o__o

Fury is the name of Zio MkIV's standard hard drive. Violence is the external; it takes care of all the excessively huge files I keep around (movies/episodes, PSP backups, etc).

Maybe you mean something else, but is your computer this guy?
Birdy the Mighty: Yeah whatever. I'd give up if it wasn't so easily accessible
History's Strongest Disciple (manga)(title translations vary): Also easy to get, but better!
Offline
I think I knew of Zio at the time but that's not where I got the computer lineage. Funny enough, the only Phantasy Stars I've played for any extended amount of time are Online and Universe, because I can't stand the rest and haven't been able to find Zer0.
Offline
Phantasy Star III is my favourite game I've never finished (because I suck at RPGs, and *spoilers* dies right away anyway).
