So, in today's update, we have an armless zombie who eats small undead puppies.
We here at Sold Out love you that much. It's a shame this arc is being cut short, I was hoping to turn Brian into some sort of fan favourite pointless character.
I'd like to talk to you about a new game I have found for the DS. Oh, yes, found. Like it was some discarded hunk of plastic I found laying on the side of the road that NOBODY HAS HEARD ABOUT.
There is a new Kirby game, Canvas Curse. It's really, really fantastic people. I mean seriously one of the best games of the year. Why? Glad you asked!
In previous DS games, the whole touch screen thing has been kind of a side item feature. Quite often the use of the touch screen is just some sort of novelty function. Oh, touch screen used as a replacement for standard analogue control. Wonderful. I mean, I like it personally, it allows far more freedom than standard analogue control – it really doesn't change anything at all, does it?
In Canvas Curse, the buttons aren't even used. So instead of having to twist and contort your hands in some sort of crazy attempt to not drop your beloved (I've dropped my DS several times now and I am proud to report no damage has been sustained at all – proving that this thing IS a fucking brick).
The gameplay often makes one just downright giddy in fact. Drawing crazy rainbows that move your little round Kirby ball around various areas just makes for something entirely new. The ability this gives you to create new scenarios ENTIRELY unseen before is downright amazing.
I did have some problems with the game. For one, while the top screen displays some information that is modestly vital – including a map which I hardly ever reference but occasionally do enjoy using to get my bearings – I think having it mirror the bottom screen to show you what's going on down there would work better. I think Nintendo forgot that MY HAND IS NOT INVISIBLE. I occasionally entirely miss enemies because I was drawing something and they were tucked away behind my thumb. This really hurts gameplay sometimes.
I also would like to IMPLOR Nintendo. Please, for the love of God, come out with a better stylus. This cheap ass piece of plastic is no good. After an hour of the drawing minigame my stylus is now slightly bent. That was just AN HOUR.
I found something that works pretty well, but I suggest you use caution here. I bought a screen protector (2 bucks for what is really nothing more than a sticky thin piece of plastic? Sure!!) for my touch screen, and instead of a stylus I use a mechanical pencil (with the lead removed obviously.) It gives for a far more solid and easier to hold utensil, and gets your hand sufficiently away from the screen. It's worked pretty well for me at least.
Also, can I ask a favour from the designers? Next time, forget trying to include a plot with the game. It was entirely retarded. I'm not going to say anything, because despite it being stupid people will still say OMG SPOILERS I am sure, but I think I prefer it when you just drop me in to the game and forget any pretense of plot. It makes me feel less like you think I'm retarded.
Wow, is that a page of information already? We've been through so much together people.
I leave you with this questionable news item that I think is slightly related to today's comic. | |
