War of the Worlds and the Political Ideals

Oh man, I love the way Lain looks in that last panel. As if he is going to kill everyone or something. Very, very dramatic. I guess you don't really kill undead though...since they're dead. What do you do to undead then? Redead? I like that. Yes, Lain's mission now is to redead a whole lot of zombies.

I blame this logic on War of the Worlds. I just got back. What did I think of the movie? I am so glad you asked.

First and foremost, and on a tangent entirely separate from actually seeing the movie, I would like to note my ticket stub read WARWORLD X. I think this would make a fantastic film, judged solely on name alone. It will star Kevin Costner, and it will be a movie about a world composed entirely of WAR. It's going to be fucking awesome.

Anyway, my thoughts on the movie? First, Tom Cruise was fantastic. I think his emotional portrayal of someone who is totally fucking confused and has no idea what's going on but would just like somewhere to sleep for a little while was fantastic. When he came in to the house and just sat down without saying a word...good job.

The special effects were fucking amazing, but then this is a Stephen Spielberg movie. Of course the special effects were amazing. I also was very pleased in how they were able to capture mass panic. People would often see what other people were doing and do what they were doing. Sometimes they would all fight each other and kill each other out of panic. Most of the time they just ran like hell. It really felt like true panic.

The biggest problem this was a movie with extremely weak plot. Nothing is really explained in any way satisfactory for the viewer. They also totally forget the logic THEY ESTABLISHED several times.

Also, you know, in an action film, people tend to like a struggle of good dude vs less than good dude. It's what keeps the tension alive. When your hero has no hope of survival and just runs like crazy, you get a little bored. Hiding out and ducking a lot just makes for boring film. Of course, our hero does prove resourceful in many circumstances, so in that regard I guess it was alright.

All in all I think it was a really good theatre experience, but it'll never be a classic. It's very good at drawing you in to its little world and the characters are all very human. You really do feel like a part of the action, and people seem to do things how people really would do things.

I'd like to talk a minute about something I am sure I have mentioned before, even in this very same context, but I can't be sure, and I feel like saying it again anyway. Get your own rant box and rant about how my rants are getting repetitive.

I notice that us liberals have this strange mentality about ourselves. As if we are the only people in the world using any sort of logic. We don't shake our fists that often, but we tend to look down and sneer on people that do not share our ideology. As if these people got the lower end of the gene pool. In fact, there was a study that PRETTY MUCH SAID that conservatives were bred from the bottom of the gene pool. We often forget that people are allowed OPINIONS DIFFERENT FROM OURS. If other people didn't have different opinions, things would never get done.

I don't agree with GWB. I think he's done a really crappy job as president. But I don't yell at him about it. Why? This seems to be what a majority of people want. You can't even say he stole the vote this time, got it fair and square. Uh-huh. The people voted for another four years of this. But you know what's great about America? In a few more years, we get to decide again. And, thanks to our system, we CAN'T have him again. New views and agendas MUST be introduced to the office. However, that is not the best part. The best part is YOU CAN CHANGE IT. Yeah, that's right, if you dislike GWB so much, DON'T rally together with your friends that also dislike him. DON'T form local activities. GET YOUR FRIENDS TO SHARE YOUR OPINIONS. Get them to DISTRUST the ideas you dislike. That's right, it's in your power to swing opinions, and every vote does count.

That being said, if you are doing nothing to make the world a better place, shut the fuck up about what a sorry state it's in. Guess what? It's your fault too.
