argh, rant later, three tests in two days, head hurts, want to die.

| | Pointless Rant X2 Posted on Wednesday 2Nov05, at 4:35 am. | | |
For those of you who were worried (see also: none of you) the official feeling I had towards my tests over the last few days was "eh...could have done better I guess."
I suppose, of course, there is stuff to talk about. A new justice is up for review for the supreme court. Don't have any complaints really. Sounds highly qualified. A little too conservative for my taste, but this IS a Bush nominee, what did you expect?
I did also see Saw II. Overall, a pretty quality movie. Some fun blood and gore. I think the suspense comes from this movie in keeping you guessing. It's like Sherlock Holmes with lots and lots of blood. Oh, and for those who didn't like the acting in the last one (yours truely included) the acting was actually pretty decent in this movie. I think signs are pointing towards a trilogy for Saw, and as my friend Patrick said "It was a good movie, but I don't think I could stand to see three of these...I'm GOING to, but I wish they wouldn't."
Indeed.
So, what AM I going to talk about? I want to be open and honest with my fans. I think we're on good terms now. We've laughed, we've cried, we've secretly plotted to kill the artist. Or maybe not to secretly.
A lot of you came from our advertisement with Bob and George. I like Bob and George, it's pretty quality; especially for a comic that updates every day. Also, many of you are Mega Man fans (or as Kyle refers to it, Rock Man. This makes me sigh quietly, but that's a whole nother rant!). Hey, I dig Mega Man. I have his collector's disc, I played a good many hours of fun with it.
That said, I wish Mega Man had died with the NES. It's an opinion, a very personal one, I know. But let me take you on a jouney with me.
Now, of course, the blue bomber kicked ass with the NES. He was, after all, an icon. He was also pretty damn hardcore, in my opinion. I mean, here we have a robot that goes around shooting things. That's just short of a pirate chewing beef jerky on the hard core factor.
Then the SNES came and...well, not a whole lot happened with our favourite blue hero then. Infact, I dare say my favourite blue hero at the time was a little more...hedgehog-esque. I did play X, but I felt that it suffered where most side-scrolling 2d platformers failed at that time. It all started with Sonic of course. They said HEY WE HAVE THIS AWESOME BLAZING GRAPHICS SHIT THAT CAN MAKE SONIC TWICE AS LARGE AS YOUR CHARACTERS AND A WHOLE LOT MORE WELL DEFINED. This, of course, was bullshit. But, gauntlets had been drawn. So began the age of large, and indeed very pretty, but entirely unwieldy sprites. This is most obvious in Donkey Kong Country.
Then, the PSX came, and with that came...voice. They gave him a voice. This was a critical blunder. MAN. MEGA...MAN. NOT WOMAN. Thank you.
But oh no, they were not done pissing on the ashes of my childhood. Did you see that shitty cartoon based around the battle network series? It was...easily...the worst cartoon I had ever seen in my entire life. I would rather watch Yu-Gi-Oh. I would rather watch Digimon. I would rather watch Beyblades. It's that bad. This is coming from someone who once watched Pokemon and Dragon Ball Z regularly. Think about that.
It was then that I decreed to myself that he died with the NES. Because, if I acknowledge that the series didn't actually end, I wouldn't even be able to touch the NES games out of anger and spite.
That is all. | |

Before the massive tide of comments come rolling in, be aware that Kite really never saw the Japanese version of the show... granted, much of it was still horrible in its own right (I'm looking specifically at you, entirely new generation of yaoi fanship) but... eh. I think he realizes that 4Kids is a horrible little company that does horrible little things involving tearing the wings off angels and fairies and such, so don't pelt us with your "OMF C JAPANS VERSION" please. We already know this.

That seems, incredibly redundant. Japan. Anime. They usually go hand in hand. I agree completely with Kyle and Kite. While Shoyu's versions of anime are typically better quality, you do end up getting shit on both ends of the spectrum. And 4Kids seems to think that for kids (The X-TREME spelling of it hurts my brain.) means that it has to be gentle, kinn've fun, and has really horrible voice-acting. Naruto is a decent anime, but the voice. It burns. As does the one for One Piece. But anyway, Americanized anime seems to mean that the Japanese have to make things much more sucky because over here we have a lot of prudism. Overall, despite the amount of hardcore we claim to, the rest of the world thinks of us as pussies, in spite of the massive military we have compared to, oh, EVERYONE ELSE. Compensating for something, Mr. Government? I think so.

Having been watching Naruto in japanese since the mid 40 episodes, I have been coming to dread the english release exponentialy more the more I hear about it. Based on the terrible job done by so many "americanizers" of anime, I think it prudent to boycott dubbed anime. Either learn the original laguage, or read and watch at the same time. The biggest problem with any dubbed anime for as far back as I can remember has been annoying voice acting. easily solved, don't watch it in english.

Now, hold on a second, before we get into dub hate, let's remember the joys and wonders dubbed animes have brought us.
Let's not forget the Cowboy Bebops of the world, or the Lupin IIIs, both of which I dare say the dub OUTSHINED the sub. I refuse to even watch Cowboy Bebop in Japanese, it fels...wrong, dirty.
Hell, even Detective Conan/Case Closed came off pretty well, and frankly if given the ability I'd MUCH rather hear something in my native language. Makes understanding the syllables stressed easier, and keeps you more in the action.
Bashing 4kids, however...I don't mind.

That's just a strange thought, cropping into my mind all of a sudden. I am, once again, in agreement with Kite. While a good deal of Anime is done well in the original language with subtitles, and you occasionally get more hard-core dialouge (See Princess Mononke, Escaflowne films.) there are the times when the translation kicks much, much ass. Outlaw Star, I feel, was done better with english dubbing. Cowboy Bebop was, without a doubt better in English. I've never seen Lupin III in japanese, but I can't imagine laughing as hard as I do while reading and watching at the same time. He's a pervert, and a dman good theif. You can't get much better humor then that. So, instead of saying to boycott all dubbed anime, why don't we put a ban on all anime that's remade for "The American Vagina". I think that makes a lot more sense. I want to see some ninja blood, and I'm going to get it, damnit! On a side note... I don't honestly think bashing dubbed anime can be viable from one who uses kaiserryu as an e-mail account. That's a mix of two languages, german for Leader and Japanese for Dragon. Most people end up taking Ryu because they love Street Fighter. While that was a well made fighting game for the time, grow the fuck up.

I love the argument and the debating over the rants and whatever the comic brings to mind.
The ability to comment on a rant on it's "Front Page" is an amazing idea in my opinion. Anyone can comment, and you don't need an acount.
Just don't be stupid. | |

Whoo I can make a point here!
I favor dubs. However I watch a lot more subtitled anime than dubbed, merely because that is what is readily available. Naruto's dubbing is not too bad, but it is somewhere inbetween 4kids and quality. Cowboy Bebop, Ranma 1/2, and outlaw star, I must say I've seen both versions, and I prefer the dub, although the sub is good too! Case Closed I prefer the sub, but not because of the quality of the voice acting, but rather the localization seems wrong. Lupin III on the other hand, the voices between the two are rather similar, but on this hand the localization of Lupin III in the dub (also modernization of dialoge) makes the dub superior in my mind, although this does not apply to hte Lupin movies.
I cannot say if the original Japanese VAs are quality, having no speaking experience of the language, but I can easily judge to see if it annoys me less than the English equilivant, and everyone should, on a case-by-case basis. However I know a lot of people like Travis who just don't like watching anime with subtitles, regardless.

Dubbed anime is good for some animes, while the subs are better for some. GTO for example, I thought was better with the subs. The dubbed voice was terrible...In my opinion anyways.

I've always prefered subbed anime as I can take in the gravity of each situation, scene, or frame while still looking at some of the glorious artwork that the Japericans (Jaoan/America) create.
Megaman should have stayed at a 32-bit level if you ask me, those ugly ass polygonal rpg-esque adventure bullshit games that are coming out now are, well, you get the point. I like the lovely side-scrolling platformer series called Mega Man and Mega Man X, and I actually prefer X as it gives a hint of storyline above 'Wily made robots, go eat them.' Don't get me wrong, in the later Mega Man games there was some nice plot :3 However it was still repetative :-/
As most of you should know, Zero is my favorite character, ever :3
