On Books

We return to Ciere's arc, already in progress. The trials of Jeff are many and varied. I have this thought in mind that the priests of Jeff often run the trials just to see what time they can get. The better the score, the closer to Jeff they reach. Sort of a spiritual enlightenment.

I posted this on the boards already (as there is little going on on the boards, and I was so overwhelmed after it occurred), but I have finally finished reading The Dark Tower series by Stephen King. There is something to be said for watching a series, for FOLLOWING a series. I found out about it just in time for the release of the fourth book, which I believe was titled Wizard and Glass (I could look it up, but I am lazy). If memory serves me, this book came out over 10 years ago. Now, that seems like a long time to me, but King has been writing this series for 40 YEARS. This amounts to thousands of pages. What gets me is this: how many pages did we never see? How much work did he put into this?

Without even commenting on the quality of the series, I will say I am absolutely amazed, purely, at his ability to tell this story in its entirety. I could not do it, even if all I had to write was just this book. As well, if he was not such a prolific writer, this would not be nearly as important. But, he works in nearly 20 books out of his vast library into it. The list of his books, versus those actually worked into the series is as the beginning of this book, and it is downright staggering.

One book down, one more to go. I have started reading Tucker Max's book "I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell". If you know his writings, you know what to expect from his stories: humerous, often drunken debauchery. But, there is something to Tucker that we should all know.

The first thing most people see when they see Tucker Max's website, as well as his book, is "My name is Tucker Max, and I am an asshole." This is the self-defacing cover he often gives himself, as some sort of horrific person who cares nothing for the wellbeing of others.

What makes him so great, however, is that he is such a wonderful character study for the duality of man. Sure, a LOT of the things he does are terrible - downright criminal even. A lot of things I would never, ever do in my life. He often treats women like objects. But, there is an honesty to him. He tells you his faults, and lays them out. As well, behind the faults is actually a funny, witty, smart human being with a wide range of emotions and appreciations. I would never call him a genius, but he is damn well close.

I envy him, but definitely not for his way with the ladies. I could never, ever treat a woman the way Tucker Max does - but that's his bag, so good on him. It's the fact that he does things his way, and always does it his way. It's the fact that he has made a life out of being an easy going care free guy who does the things he wants to do.

Let's face it people, the man is paid to do the things we wish we could go out and do and tell us about it. It's sort of a vicarious thing. As well, it's an empowering thing. I honestly feel Tucker Max changed me slightly. There is a certain self-confidence I have after meeting Tucker. Because, as I said, despite his numerous faults, the man is just downright cool, while being perfectly human. This makes us all realize that we can overcome those little faults we have, and be better people for understanding this.

I think though, if Tucker read this, he'd just laugh and tell me how full of bullshit I am. I don't care, when he comes through on his book tour, I'm buying him a beer - it's the least I can do to repay him.

That's all for now. See you again Friday.

I have to make a map of this now...

Though all I know about that area is that it has a chaingun drone and a non-homing zap drone...I'd have to do a LOT of improvising...

If you do make it, let us know! I'd love to try it out. Also-- and I can't speak for Kyle, this is just my speculation-- it seems to me that that zap drone WOULD be a homing one, being as it did bee-beep and go for our protagonist. And of course, the angle of it in the previous frame was in just such a way so that the antenna would be hidden, so it could still be there.

Somewhat funny but mostly sad N story: I had to delete the N icon from my desktop in order to get any work done. Before that, it was just too easy access.

Yeah...

N can be addicting. I usually make a whole bunch of maps (usually 10 or 15) in succession that follow each other, like a story. It's a...hobby of mine. =3

Of course, I'm the only one who ever knoes the story so...=/

I still have yet to complete an episode column

On the main rant by one Mr. Kite.
Personally, I think Tucker isn't so awesomely cool by overcoming his little faults insomuch as from embracing them. Because let's face it; it's the little, shitty things about us as well as the good parts that come together and make us who we are. The parts make up the whole, but without seeing the whole the parts simply get in the way.
That was deep... where'd I put the vodka..?

On a one Mr. Kite's main rant.
I think the reason Tucker Max is so awesomely... awesome. (My brain! GAH!) Isn't because he gets over his little faults, but embraces them. I mean, let's face it. It's the shit about ourselves as well as the niceties that end up completing us as who we are. All the parts make up the whole; but if you can't see the whole, the parts are really just in the way.
Gods... that was deep. Where'd I stow the vodka..?
