| | ...so I went a LITTLE crazy... Posted on Sunday 5Feb06, at 4:13 am. | | |
I kind of went...uh...crazy Thursday night. The stress of school got to me, and in the moment of free time I had to concentrate on Sold Out, I flipped out and for a moment felt the need that..if Sold Out wasn't something amazing by comic #100, I would have failed. Some of you may have noticed the board post, and just thought it was a little extreme, but it stemmed from a much more bizarre conversation I had with Koushiro as to the future of the comic.
This is not to say that productivity did not come from this short burst of insanity. Some realizations occur.
1) I take this comic far too seriously as an artistic endeavor. Expect to see us join the top 100 webcomics thing Gigaville is a member of soonish. We're not entirely sure upon this, but I'm pretty sure I need to do that if I want to get the comic done.
2) Next week, or sometime soonish, we're going to start compiling ALL of the information that we know about the who, where, and when of the webcomic under a special board on the message board called "Sold Out Insiders." This is currently only open to people me and Kyle knew prior to the opening of the webcomic (and Ojimo), but you can buy passage to this treasure trove (that we'll be building soonish) for a dollar's donation! Which, of course, gets you the whole donation package. Remember...desktop wallpapers, sketches, and a special bonus comic!
3) The book is probably going to be in black and white. Why? Because we can print a full color version with the first FOUR arcs later, when we have a decently well known name for our comic. It occured to me that the more well known comics can buy in bulk, knowing that people will buy their material, and that's why if we published our comic the way we want to now it'd be $30 whereas Penny Arcade is publishing roughly the same thing for $12. It's all about prestige. So, later on, when we're cool, we'll go for full color. In the meantime, the book we'll be offering will have material you will never see, not on this website, not in later versions of the book...never. So, it should entirely be worth the $12 to a true fan.
We'll be sure to make the grey scaling artistic. It will be of decent quality, but it will be black and white. It's something that has to happen.
I'm going to be at the Tucker Max signing in Atlanta tomorrow. I'll be sure to write about it for Monday's update, but if you're looking for me, I'll be around.
As well, I'll write about Hostel. Won't that be fun?!
In the meantime...I'm tired, and I have things to do tomorrow. Kite out.

Oh, almost forgot to mention. The Web Cartoonists Choice Awards is going on soonish, they're taking in suggestions right now. It's kind of cool. I doubt Sold Out will see much of anything from here, but I'd like to see how we'd do...

| | Nice Reference Posted on Sunday 5Feb06, at 11:33 am. by Gorrad | |
Heh, it actually IS a religion. The Order of the Stick's god of choice is Banjo the Clown, a hand puppet clown with a banjo. go to http://www.giantitp.com/cgi-bin/GiantITP /ootscript if you want to read the comic

I was wondering when somebody would get that... Nice cross-referencing of other comics! DD for the win and stuff! Of course, I'm not sure if the entire Jeff-ism is sort of a spin-off of the Pure Pwnage webcomic... whee!
| |
| | On Jeffism Posted on Sunday 5Feb06, at 4:52 pm. | | |
Jeffism is actually loosely based on a friend of ours and predates Pure Pwnage. More information will come soon as the prophecies are revealed, or something!

| | Re: Sinistar Posted on Sunday 5Feb06, at 10:04 pm. | | |
Sinistar was basically a hallucination from Tristain's "adventure" in space; he won't be showing up again.
Plus, I figure if Stephen Notley can outright name one of his books "Coffee with Sinistar" then using him as a throwaway joke during our own comic's infancy is fair enough use. NEXT QUESTION!

Was it bovine?
Or bovine intervention?
Yes... that was horrible, but it had to be done, I feel.
